Blog / Code

This blog is about sustainability and SRI/ESG investing. I focus on two things: 1) data-centric analyses of specific ESG topics (e.g., sustainable energy, gender diversity), and 2) the investing process itself (e.g., SRI/ESG mutual fund research). Posts range from long-form articles to shorter, informal (and more technical) “how-to” posts on ESG-related analytics and programming (indicated by a green coding symbol). The blog is new and a work in progress. I welcome feedback.

Scraping ESG Scores

ESG data options are fairly limited for individual investors. One exception is the ESG scores, ratings, and rankings provided by Morningstar/Sustainalytics on Yahoo Finance. This post is an R language coding how-to on scraping this data.

Utility Cybersecurity Disclosures

Energy infrastructure cybersecurity is front-and-center after targeted attacks on facilities in the U.S., Europe and other counties. This post analyzes the frequency and context of cyber-related risk mentions in investor-facing documents.

Cybersecurity & ESG Investing

Cybersecurity is relevant to all investing and as a material sustainability issue has particular implications for SRI/ESG investing. Cyber risk is firmly on general investing agendas (SEC, FASB) as well as those of ESG-specific organizations.
